Sony Xperia XZ and Xperia XZs are the latest flagships from the Japanese tech company that have just been launched at the Mobile World Congress 2017.
The event is going on and so far, several OEMs held their press conferences yesterday, among them Samsung, Huawei, Nokia and LG. While the products of yesterday were just as exciting as the event itself, there’s no doubt that Sony’s latest event has stolen the show today. The company has unveiled a bunch of phones at the MWC, but at the top of the chart are the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs.
So far, the tech giant has confirmed just about every detail we need to know about this phone, be it the release date, price or specs and features. The Xperia XZ Premium, like the name hints, has a premium metallic build that is waterproof and only 7.9mm thick. However, it is quite heavy at 195g.
In terms of display, the Xperia XZ Premium has a 5.5-inch screen with a massive resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels (UHD), beating any competition so far, apart from the 2015 Xperia Z5 Premium, which also comes with the same 4K resolution. It gets even better in terms of performance as the phone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC that is paired with a RAM of 4GB. On the back of the phone is a 19MP lens that is supported by a 13MP shooter on the front and for connectivity purposes, you get the latest USB-C port.
To keep the lights on is a generous 3230mAh battery that is supported by fast charging technology. For storage, the Xperia XZ Premium has 64GB, which can also be expanded via a microSD card of up to 256GB. Software-wise, the flagship has Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. This same software also powers the Xperia XZs out of the box, but this model has different specs when compared to the Premium. In fact, it shares a lot with the 2016 Xperia XZ thanks to the 5.2-inch Full HD screen and the Snapdragon 820 chipset under the hood. However, the RAM has been stepped up to 4GB, but the storage options remain at 32GB and 64GB, with room for microSD card expansion.
Like the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, the Xperia XZs has a waterproof casing that measures 8.1mm thick and weighs 161g. If you are looking to grab yourself any of these two phones, the latter will set you back $699, same as the launch price of the Xperia XZ. It will be available for purchase beginning April 5th. As for the Xperia XZ Premium, the price is not yet confirmed, but it will be available in spring.
