If Sony’s leaked roadmap is anything to go by, the Xperia X lineup should start receiving Android Nougat this month.
The leak details out the Japanese tech giant’s plans with respect to rolling out the new OS to the said Xperia X series that is led by the recent Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Performance – two flagships in the lineup. A few weeks ago, the leak confirmed that these two phones will start receiving the update this month of October. Now that it’s only two weeks before the month comes to a conclusion, it is plausible to say that the Nougat update should start hitting the Xperia X flagships in under two weeks.
If this indeed materializes, the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance could end up becoming the first non-Android devices to be updated to Android Nougat. This comes after the LG V20 took the crown of the first device to come preinstalled with the same OS after the device was announced in early September and released towards the end of the same month in its home country of Korea.
The roadmap is not strange in any way given that the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance are the most recent flagships from Sony. But as for the likes of Xperia X and Xperia Compact, the update should be available beginning next month. Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z3+ will see the new Android Nougat in December with the remaining Xperia X family receiving the update beginning 2017.
Even though the Japanese tech giant has not said anything regarding the leaked roadmap, it had already released a list of devices that should expect to see Android Nougat come on board. Like expected, the list includes the aforementioned Xperia XZ, X Compact, and Xperia X Performance. As for those using the Xperia Z3 and beyond, Marshmallow should be the last major update for these devices.
Note that dates for rolling out software updates are always subject to change and worse off is the fact that Sony has not gone public with the details yet. So, don’t get too excited as the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance might still end up receiving the update at a different date than speculated. Keep following us and we’ll let you know when this happens.
