Sprint has begun rolling out the new Android 7.0 Nougat to the flagship HTC 10, close to three months after the OS started rolling out to the unlocked variant in the country.
The Taiwanese company had promised that the update to Android 7.0 Nougat will be available to the HTC 10, One M9 and One A9 first, but the three have been updated individually in that order – so far – for the unlocked variants. Not so long ago, Sprint started rolling out this update to the HTC One A9 and today, the story is the same for the 2016 flagship.
The American carrier has not yet confirmed this, but notable HTC ROM developer @LlabTooFeR has been tipped by someone who has already received the update on their device. From the shared screenshot, the latest Android 7.0 Nougat for HTC 10 weighs 1.3GB and carries software version 2.42.651.6. The update, in addition to bringing the Nougat OS, will also improve the system in general, but the specifics of these improvements have not been mentioned. The latest monthly Android security patch is also expected to be part of it.

As usual with OTA software updates, those using the HTC 10 on Sprint will not get the update all at once. Rather, the OS is rolling out gradually, meaning that some users might wait for days before they finally get Android 7.0 Nougat on their phones. In short, don’t worry if this update doesn’t hit your phone today or even tomorrow. But if you can’t wait, go to Settings>About phone>System updates and in there, you can scan the company’s servers and see if the update is ready for your device.
Just in case you are lucky enough to find the Nougat update, make sure your HTC 10 has a battery that is at least 50% charged. If otherwise, connect it to a power source first. Looking at the 1.3GB file size, it is recommended that you connect to the internet via a Wi-Fi hotspot, but if you are on an unlimited data plan, you may proceed with cellular data.
