It has been close to two years since Starfield was launched and one can safely say that the title has proved to be a success for Bethesda.
In the last two years, the studio has rolled out several important updates for the game.
Now, a developer has stated that the game will be getting a lot of fresh content. Apart from a new story DLC, the game will be provided with gameplay improvements and free updates. Shattered Space, which happened to be the first story DLC for Starfield, was launched in September 2024. Though the expansion was lauded by a certain section of fans, it did not quite succeed in increasing the player count for the game.

For a while now, Bethesda has been dropping hints about a second expansion being rolled out for Starfield soon. Many gaming experts were of the opinion that a new expansion would be launched sooner rather than later to ensure the popularity of the game swings higher.
A while back, Todd Howard, who serves as executive producer and director at Bethesda Game Studios, confirmed that there are plans in place for “Year 2” updates. A new DLC, Howard confirmed, would be rolled out as a part of these updates. Howard, however, refrained from sharing further information about it.
A patent, which has been filed for the name ‘Starborn’, started circulating online recently. This, in turn, led many to arrive at the conclusion that this was finalized as the upcoming expansion’s title. Many also stated that this gives one some idea about the elements around which the story will revolve.
Tim Lamb, who serves as the lead creative producer at Starfield, recently shared some details at a developer spotlight. According to Lamb, the development team at Bethesda is working towards rolling out free updates that have been designed keeping in mind the features the players had been requesting for a while.
The lead creative producer further stated that a new DLC story is on the way. Elaborating on this further, Lamb said that a part of the team has been working on space gameplay to ensure the travels prove to be more rewarding. According to Lamb, new Starfield Creation mods, too, will be rolled out soon.

While Lamb did not specify a release date for the second expansion, insiders are of the belief that it will not be released before 2026. Some of the recent leaks have also pointed towards Starfield arriving on Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 in spring 2026. If there is an iota of truth in this piece of information, one can expect Bethesda to launch a new story DLC around the same time.
In the last few months, one has heard a plethora of rumors pertaining to Starfield. One of the rumors suggested the possibility of ship travel being revamped in the game through a new update. Modders have also stumbled upon the presence of a feature named ‘cruise mode’ that could be incorporated soon.
