Verizon has confirmed that the HTC 10 phones on its network have received an update.
Released in May 2016, theHTC 10 has received only lukewarm response in major markets across the world. This was despite HTC aiming for perfection with the device starting from the name. The design of the phone is a major revamp compared to previous generations. The company has also dropped the ‘M’ from the series name. All these changes, though, have done little to stop the dominance of the Samsung and Apple phones.
The HTC 10 comes with the same 5.2-inch screen as before. Other aspects of the display like the QHD resolution also remains similar. HTC might have felt that there was little need to improve on these aspects, but there are few phablets in the HTC line-up and the company could have provided a pseudo-phablet with a small increase in screen size. Instead of targeting an entirely new segment, HTC has focused on improving the phone that was already great in several aspects.
The new HTC 10 comes with the snapdragon 820 processor, which is fast becoming the standard fitment for high-end devices. This new-age processor from snapdragon combines two dual core processors for enough speed to run the android operating system in the best possible way. The HTC 10 ships with the android marshmallow out of the box as expected. It is this operating system which was updated on May 27, according to the company’s vice president of product management.
The update is expected to improve several aspects about the camera while also bringing the latest level security patches for android from Google. It remains to be seen if the improvements with regard to camera brings about major changes to the imaging quality. HTC’s camera in higher end models has always been questioned since the Taiwanese company has preferred not to adopt a mainstream route in this regard.
Even in the HTC 10, the company uses a 12-megapixel camera when competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S7 come with 16 megapixel sensors. Even though Verizon claims that the update will be available from tomorrow, it may take a few days before the OTA update is available throughout the United States. Unlike the major updates, the upcoming one may be quite small since it is a short fix. The HTC 10 is available in 32 and 64 GB variant.
