The Chinese certification website TENAA recently showed the presence of a new smartphone in the limelight in September 2016.
Known as Y55A or just Y55, this GSM handset incidentally bears a striking similarity to the Xiaomi Redmi 3s in terms of looks. There is also another report on PhoneArenathat claims the device will be available in three different models, the other two variants being Vivo Y55L and Vivo Y55N. The TENAA website also revealed some features and specifications of this upcoming smartphone, some of which also match that of the Xiaomi offering. This handset is expected to arrive as a successor of the manufacturer’s very own Vivo Y51. It is to be noted that Vivo is currently one of the top rated five smartphone manufacturers.
Unlike its predecessor that came with a polycarbonate body, the leaked images indicate that the Y55 variants house a fully metallic unibody. The front panel appears to be white in color. As for the design, the handset sports the customary looks with the secondary camera lens at the top left of the front panel. The home and other control panels are present at the bottom. Power and volume control buttons make their presence felt on the right side. Two antenna lines run across the top and bottom of the back panel. One differentiating feature from its Xiaomi look alike is the absence of a fingerprint scanner on the rear. The Y55 is super thin and compact with its size of 147.9 x 72.9 x 7.5 mm. Weighing a little less than 142g, the device is also not very heavy either. Although the Y55A supports dual SIM functionality, one of the slots is a hybrid SIM slot that can be used to insert either a second SIM or a memory card.
The Vivo smartphone comes with a 5.2 inches IPS screen. The HD screen extends its support for multitouch and is scratch resistant with Corning Gorllia Glass 2 protection. The capacitive display has a pixel resolution of 720 x 1280 and a pixel density of very close to 282ppi. There is also a report of breaking away from the usual trend of IPS and AMOLED screens to use a TFT screen. The handset is capable of rendering 16 million colors like its counterparts and has a close to 69.1% screen-to-body ratio.
In the optics department, the Y55A has an 8MP primary shooter with 3264 x 2448 image resolution and an LED flash. Apart from capturing your favorite shots, this camera can also be used for recording 720p HD videos at 30fps. On the front, the secondary 5MP snapper does justice to the selfies and 3G or video calls it is used for. This shutterbug also records 720p videos like its rear corresponding item. Other than the normal features like digital zoom, touch and auto focus, smile and face detection, HDR, panorama, gesture shot, voice capture and face beauty; the child mode needs a special mention. This mode can be activated or deactivated based on the user’s preferences. With the child mode set on, you can decide which of the camera features your child has access to.
The Vivo Y55 supports selected 2G, 3G and 4G network bands;Equipped with an octa core processor that ticks at 1.4GHz, it isloaded with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM for internal storage. However, the offered storage can be augmented externally by a further 128GB. The 2GB RAM helps in providing a hassle free experience by offering a smooth and seamless operation. Although Android is making way for its Nougat version into some smartphones, the Vivo gadget still relies on Android 6.0 Marshmallow interlaced with the manufacturer’s very own Funtouch OS.
Battery and Battery Life
There is nothing spectacular about the battery. The Y55A comes with a normal non-removable Li-ion battery that can be used for a single day on full charge. Going by inputs from unofficial sources, with uninterrupted use, the smartphone has a talk time of eight hours and a standby time of 270 hours. Music and video playback hours are claimed to be 22 and six hours respectively.
There is no clear indication at the moment when the Vivo Y55A will be launched. But, expectations are that this will take place soon with a release shortly after. It is also being said that the Y55L and Y55N versions will work exclusively on Chinese networks, while the Y55 A or Y55N will be available in different parts of the globe. Possible color choices are gold, gray and rose gold although it is not known if all models will feature in all three colors.
