Volkswagen Launches the Ameo Diesel in India with A DSG Automatic Gearbox

After launching Ameo earlier this year in its petrol version, Volkswagen is rolling out its diesel variant too in India.

Volkswagen has completed its business crate for the Ameo model by launching its diesel variant. The interesting tidbit is that the Ameo Diesel, which is a compact sedan, will be available with an automatic DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), which is the first in the segment.

The big news is that Volkswagen Ameo is debuting in many firsts in the segment. Many features that were alien till now to the sphere of the compact sedan from Volkswagen have made their way to Ameo Diesel. The cruise controls, wipers which can sense rain, cornering lights that are static are a few interesting features to which deserve a special mention from the long list. The main highlight is, however, the DSG transmission with a 7-speed control. However, this will be available only as the Highline and the Comfortline adornments, along with other standard functions like the ESP and Hill Hold control.

The Power House Details

The standard 5-speed manual DSG, with an optional automatic system, is now paired with a four-pot diesel banger with a capacity of 1.5 liters and is all set to give a sprightly performance to the car. The diesel powered engine is tuned to push out an output of 108 bhp with a torque of 250 Nm. The horsepower figure of Ameo exceeds that of the Polo GT, making it the most powerful sedan by Volkswagen so far in its class.

Spruced Up Interiors

The Volkswagen Ameo is completely packed with overhauled features which include a cooled glove box, a touchscreen-enabled multimedia system with a Mirror Link, SMS and phonebook viewer, connectivity for iPod, a central armrest in the front, climate controlled automatic AC with filters for dust and pollen, a telescopic steering wheel that can be tilted, interior mirror which can auto dim, side mirrors that can be electrically adjusted and foldable, front and rear windows that are anti-pinch powered, a rearview camera with parking sensors, and LED turn indicators for the ORVMs.

Other Standard Features

The German automaker does not take safety issues lightly, so the complete lineup of Ameo comes with ABS and dual airbags as standard components. The other features are a galvanized steel body with crumple zones, which comes with an anti-perforation warranty, an anti-corrosion perforation warranty of six years and a paint warranty of three years.

Pricing in India

Even the pricing of the Ameo is competitive, with its basic model tunneling the price of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, it arch rival, by almost Rs. 70,000. This price comparison is without considering the ABS variants.

Volkswagen Ameo

Ameo is available in India in 5 diesel variants which come with a 1.5-liter TDi engine. The TLMT variant is priced at Rs 6.26 lakh (ex-showroom price) at Mumbai and Rs 6.33 lakh (ex-showroom price) for Delhi. The CL MT variant comes at a price of Rs 7.26 lakh (ex-showroom price) in Mumbai and Rs 7.35 lakh (ex-showroom price) in Delhi. The CL DSG variant is priced at Rs 8.4 lakh (ex-showroom price) in Mumbai whereas in Delhi it is Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom price). The HL MT comes at a price of Rs 8.07 lakh (ex-showroom price) in Mumbai and at Delhi it costs Rs 8.16 lakh (ex-showroom price). And the final variant HL DSG is priced at Rs 9.21 lakh (ex-showroom price) in Mumbai, whereas in Delhi it costs Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom price).

The Volkswagen Ameo is competing with the likes of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Figo Aspire, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, and Tata Zest. The Ameo is definitely a make or break model for Volkswagen in India.
