Xiaomi is known for the fact that it copies a lot its smartphone designs from other successful OEMs in the business, namely Apple and Samsung, however, the Chinese OEM proved the world wrong with the new Xiaomi Mi MIX.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX is a nearly bezel-less handset that was unveiled a few days ago, with the company terming it as a concept phone. Despite the name, the Mi MIX is already up for grabs, but be warned that this phablet is incredibly fragile, just like you’d expect from a device whose front is over 90% screen.
Xiaomi Mi MIX is not yet available in global markets, but you can get it from GearBest or Geek Buying starting from about $660. However, it seems someone who has already gotten their hands on the new Mi MIX has had the worst possible experience after accidentally dropping the phone.
According to a report from XiaomiToday, the dropped Xiaomi Mi MIX ended up useless. The display of the phone broke leaving the entire glass damaged as well as taking out the display panel itself. As noted earlier, this phone has the screen occupying more than 90% of its front panel and worse off, the screen is edge-to-edge, without protective bezels around it. This was not the end as the dropped Xiaomi Mi MIX further suffered damages on its beautiful ceramic frame, which was left separated from the phone.
When you look at the Xiaomi Mi MIX, you will agree that the handset is indeed slick and huge as well. Maybe these were contributors to the phone easily slipping from the user’s hand. It seems Xiaomi was very much aware of this and no wonder the phone ships with a protective casing inside the box. With this case, you have better chances of avoiding such a tragedy just in case the 6.4-inch phablet slips out of your hand. Even though most people don’t like carrying around phones that are enclosed in a casing, the fact that the Xiaomi Mi MIX is incredibly fragile should make you consider this option, if at all you must buy this phone.
In terms of specs, you will love what the Xiaomi Mi MIX brings to the table. Its huge 6.4-inch screen has a 2K resolution and it runs from edge-to-edge, with only the bottom side coming with a bezel for housing the front camera. Speaking of cameras, you get a 5MP selfie sensor alongside a 16MP main camera that comes with an 18K gold rim around it. Like the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, you get the new Snapdragon 821 SoC under the hood alongside two RAM and storage options – 4GB/128GB and 6GB/256GB.
You get a huge 4400mAh battery to keep the Mi MIX alive. This is supported by Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
