Xiaomi All Set to Introduce its Almost Bezel-Less Mi Mix Smartphone

Bezel Less Mi Mix Smartphone

Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer is all set to redefine the way smartphones look with its upcoming Mi Mix.

Breaking away from the normal tradition, this fairly high priced handset is going to be edgeless and will feature bare minimum bezels. In other words, there will be hardly any bezel on the right and left sides, as well as the top. Targeting the Chinese market, the device is slated for sales in November 2016. This new smartphone was unveiled by the manufacturer when it participated in an event in Beijing towards the end of October. At first glance, the handset looks really impressive and has a glass slab like appearance. But, this also means certain standard features like the front camera and the proximity sensor will have to find their places away from their usual positions. The acoustic ceramic piezoelectric earpiece speaker is talked about as one of the key highlights.

Available in gold color with a mirror-like finish, the Mi Mix opts for ceramic as its body material. The device is neither small nor lightweight in comparison to many other smartphones. The Xiaomi offering will feature a size of 158.8 x 81.90 x 7.90 and is said to weigh 209g. As can be expected, the gadget will be capable of accommodating two nano SIM cards at a time. Owing to the bezel-free sides and top, the handset will have a customized 17:9 aspect ratio that translates to a 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. Based on the manufacturer’s claims, this will provide the user with more screen space and also result in better viewing experience for content. The overall screen size is expected to be 6.4 inches that will make it just a tad smaller than the screen of the manufacturer’s Mi Max. The IPS LCD screen is slated to offer a pixel resolution of 1080 x 2040 and a pixel density of 362ppi. When put in paper, this can mean that the display output is not stunning but produces more than just satisfactory results.

In the optics division, talks are that the primary camera on the rear will be a 16MP phase detection autofocus camera with dual LED dual tone flash. The key highlight is said to be its support for electronic image stabilization that helps in cutting down on blurring in photos and videos. There are also rumors about the ability to support multiple video recording formats such as 2160p and 1080p videos at 30 fps and 720p videos at 120 fps. Contradictory to the top positioning of the front shooter, this shutterbug is bound to find its position at the bottom. The 5MP secondary snapper is believed to incorporate one of the smallest sensors and can auto-rotate itself. Because of this self-rotation ability, taking selfies or making video calls is definitely easier. All that you will have to get started is to flip the device in the desired direction.

On the hardware front, like most Xiaomi smartphones, you can expect two variations. The only difference will be in the RAM integrated. While one version will house 4GB RAM, the other is reported to be a higher end model with 6GB RAM. Unfortunately, either model will not allow you to use a memory card. But, storage should not be a problem because of the vast 128GB storage that will come built-in. The smartphone is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, a Kyro quad core central processor (one set of two processors clocking at 2.35GHz and two other processors ticking at 1.6GHz) and an Adreno 530 graphics processor. For the operating system, the Xiaomi Mi Mix will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preloaded out of the box. This will be interlaced with MiUI 8 – the latest version of the manufacturer’s own user interface.

Talking about connectivity, there are gossips about various options being offered. These include Wi-Fi 802.11 (a/b/g/n/ac, dual band, hotspot and direct), GPS with A-GPS/BDS/GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.2 with LE/A2DP, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC and USB Type C 1.0 reversible connector. The smartphone is also said to encompass a slew of sensors like proximity sensor, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass, rear fingerprint scanner and barometer.

No reports are accessible to determine the chemical composition of the battery used. However, it is reported that the Mi Mix will come with a massive non-removable 4,400 mAh battery. Interestingly, this battery is reported to allow quick charging because of its Quick Charge 3.0 support.
