In early May 2016, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi announced the launch of its new midrange smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Max.
Whilst the initial launch took place in the home country, it is soon expected to take place in other countries where the company has its presence. However, there is no clue as to when the manufacturer will release this handset to the public. Interestingly, this smartphone that is large enough to be a phablet is the company’s largest offering to date. Initial sales of this dual SIM gadget in Europe are likely to be only through online sources. Talks are that the device will be made available in two metallic color options of gold and silver, as well as dark gray for those who want a non-metallic option.
Design, Body Material, Dimensions and Weight
Based on reports, the device is sleek and yet slightly bulkier than normal smartphones in the same category. Leaked images show the handset depicting rounded corners that make it look stylish. Rumors are that like Apple’s smartphones, the Mi Max will encompass a full metal body and incorporate a fingerprint reader on its rear. Although Xiaomi did not make any mention of a USB port at the time of the launch, pictures of the device indicate the possibility of a microUSB 2.0 port at its bottom.Speculated dimensions of the gadget are 173.1 x 88.3 x 7.5 mm. Owing to the all metal construction, it is only to be expected that the smartphone will be a tad heavy. The anticipated weight is about 203g.
Screen Display and Pixel Resolution & Density
The Xiaomi Mi Max will house a really large 2.5D arc screen of 6.44 inches size. The IPS LCD Full HD screen is slated to have a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with 342ppi pixel density. The IPS LCD technology is sure to assure you of wide viewing angles. However, it is yet to be known about the clarity and sharpness of the display. This is considering the fact that the screen size is going to be very big whilst the pixel density tends to be just average. There are various other smartphones in the market with smaller screens and greater pixel densities that render really good display effects. Apart from the mentioned parameters, it is also reported that the display screen will be made using Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to prevent scratches from forming on its screen.Sunlight display is said to be a noteworthy feature of the display that makes the screen contents legible even in bright sunlight. Rumors are on that a night reading mode is also being implemented in addition to a dynamic global pixel adjustment.
If the sharpness and clarity meets users’ expectations, the big screen promises to be a boon for avid gamers, readers, movie buffs and web surfers.
Rear and Front Cameras
If the talks going around are to be trusted, the Mi Max will be seen sporting a 16MP rear or primary camera and a 5MP front or a secondary camera. Even as the rear snapper shows signs of supporting phase detection autofocus, the front shooter is supposed to be equipped with an 85-degree lens with wide angle functionality. This can account for decent quality video chats and selfies. There are statements being made about an interesting feature of the smartphone’s camera identifying different items in a snapshot and connecting the user to an online portal.
Hardware, Memory and Software
In an attempt to reach out to a large group of people, Xiaomi is going that extra mile to manufacture its gadget in three variations. Although there are some inputs about the processor used and memory, the company has not let out any details about the clocking frequency. Yet going by usual standards, this is touted to be 1.8GHz. One of the versions will include 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM as built-in storage. This version will use a hexa core processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chipset. One of the other two models will include 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The final version is a premium model with 4GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt ROM storage. These last two models will incorporate a quad core processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset. All three models will use an Adreno 510 graphics processor and allow you to expand memory further up to an additional 128GB. Interestingly, there is no separate slot for the memory card. You will have to use the second memory card slot to insert this.
The good news is that Xiaomi will release the handset with Marshmallow that is Android’s latest operating system. This will give you access to many new features. Moreover, the user interface MIUI 8 featured in the device is also the latest version. So, you will have more to look forward to.
Battery
The Xiaomi Mi Max will house a really huge 4,850 mAh Li-ion non-removable battery.
