The MIUI developer edition on Xiaomi Mi 5C is receiving a new update that adds support for the latest Android 7.1 Nougat OS.
A while ago, the Chinese OEM rolled out an update to the Xiaomi Mi 5C that brought with it the updated Android 7.0 Nougat OS, but the company is taking it to the next level with an update to v7.1 of the same OS. This fulfills a promise that had been made earlier that the Mi 5C will be updated in March.
This is for sure a surprise from Xiaomi, a company that a few years ago, it was mostly overlooked due to the poor software updates track record. However, things have been improving steadily and now that the likes of Xiaomi Mi 5C are already receiving the update to Android 7.1 Nougat well ahead of the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, it is indeed a huge step forward.
Of course, it is easy to say that Xiaomi Mi 5C is receiving the update to Android 7.1 Nougat because it’s a new phone. Many were disappointed when the Chinese OEM unveiled the phone with Android Marshmallow running the show. But at the time, the company promised that it will update the device to the latest MIUI 8, which is based on the newer Android 7.1 Nougat.
Something to note is that the current Android 7.1 Nougat for Xiaomi Mi 5C is being seeded to those using the MIUI 8 developer ROM, with users of the stable ROM expected to receive the same treat in early April. Since Xiaomi allows users of Mi phones to run different versions of the MIUI, you can simply get the developer ROM from the official MIUI forum and after that, you will be able to download and install the latest Android 7.1 Nougat on your phone. Otherwise, you will have to wait for some days or weeks before you are able to use this OS on the stable MIUI 8 ROM.
