When the Xiaomi Mi 6 was launched in China, there was a lot of excitement in different markets where the company has previously sold its devices, more specifically, India.
Over the recent past, the Asian country has become one of Xiaomi’s biggest markets after China. The country has been consuming a huge chunk of smartphones from the Chinese OEM, but most of them are budget Redmi handsets. When the Xiaomi Mi 6 came to life boasting a mind-blowing set of specs and features, many were looking forward to the arrival of the phone not just in India, but also other markets.
However, one devastating rumor appeared towards the end of April, claiming that the Xiaomi Mi 6 might never set foot in India. In fact, the rumor claimed that the phone might get a different variant that could make it to India and other countries where the price of the Mi 6 would be a problem. Speaking of price, the Mi 6 is currently the most affordable Snapdragon 835 smartphone with a price tag of about $363 in China. However, there’s the thinking that the price of the phone could be higher in other markets where the company sells its products, which are mostly developing nations.
As a result of this price issue, it was rumored that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will get a variant that is more affordable and from the latest developments, it appears that this variant will be called Xiaomi Mi 6X. Not so long ago, an unknown Xiaomi phone appeared on GFXBench with the codename Jason and at the time, it was thought that this could be a Mi 6C. However, the latest reports claim otherwise – that this could be the Xiaomi Mi 6X, a toned-down variant of the flagship Mi 6.
The report comes from Chinese platform MyDrivers, which adds that this Xiaomi Mi 6X phone will see the sun very soon. If the report is to be believed, the toned-down version of the Mi 6 will be among the first to ship with the new Snapdragon 660 SoC on board. The RAM will be retained at 6GB and storage at 64GB, same as the standard Mi 6. Rather than come in with a dual-lens camera like its counterpart, this Mi 6X will allegedly ship with a single 12MP lens alongside a 4MP shooter for selfies, a package that resembles the Mi 5S.
Other specs of the phone include a 5.1-inch Full HD screen and Android Nougat out of the box. The same source also notes that this Xiaomi Mi 6X will get a price tag of RMB 1999, which equates to about $294. If all goes according to plan the Mi 6X will be unveiled in August.
