Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 with 18:9 Display and Snapdragon 660 Arriving Late to the Party:  Is it for Real?

The successor to the Xiaomi Mi Pad 3, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is likely to be the next in line to be released. However, there is no official information from the company.

According to rumors surfacing in China, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 will come with a 2 in 1 hybrid designing.

Mi Pad 3

The Pad 3 was released in April last year. It is the 3rd generation tablet running on Android. The next generation Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is expected but might be arriving late for the party. This is quite in line with previous releases. For instance, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was released in November of 2015, whereas the Pad 3 was launched only in April 2017. If Xiaomi continues to stick to this cycle of one and a half years, it seems likely that the Mi Pad 4 will be arriving somewhere in the last quarter of 2018.

Rumors about Mi Pad 4

According to Pan Jiutang, a Chinese analyst, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is now in the Research and Development stages. The analyst shared the information through Weibo, which is a social networking site based in China.

Even Lei Jun, the co founder of Xiaomi confirmed that the company is in the process of developing a new tab, though he did not make any mention of the specific name. However, in contrast, Xiaomi had actually removed the tablet series from its site some time back, making it appear that it had no plans for announcing a new tablet in the Mi Pad series.

Firmware Files and Specs

Some firmware files have been received from @FunkyHuawei, which he has shared with the XDA Developers. According to these files, it is clear that the new device is a Pad or tablet.

The screen density is specified as 320. This is quite low and can only be fitting for a tablet that shows more content on its display screen.

It’s battery power is 6000 mAh. This is a lot for a smartphone. It is possible to have this kind of power for the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 smartphone, but the firmware for the latter device does not match those of the current firmware files.

Xiaomi has always manufactured only Android tabs for the Mi Pad tablet series, so as this is another tablet made by Xiaomi, it has to be the next XiaomiMi Pad 4.

Top Specs Expected

The tablet could be in the ratio of 18:9. It could also have an LCD panel over the OLED screen. The Qualcomm, Snapdragon 660 processor and not the Snapdragon 660, will power the tab. There are no details regarding the RAM of the device, however.

It is likely that the XiaomiMi Pad 4 might offer microSD card slot, but again it might not. This is because the Mi Pad 3 does not have one.  As for the camera, there will probably be one 13 MP camera with OmniVision and OV 13855 sensor and a focal aperture of 2.0 for the rear camera.  It will not support video recording, but there might be a portrait mode. Additionally, there is no NFC support.

Resemblance to Mi Pad 3

It might resemble the Mi Pad 3, with a metal unibody design. Hopefully, it will be an affordable tab, with no high-end specifications.
