We know that Xiaomi is working on a new MIUI 9 skin that is meant to succeed the aging MIUI 8 that currently runs on top of the stock Android OS on Xiaomi phones.
Earlier this month, a report surfaced from China with claims that the Xiaomi MIUI 9 will be ready for release somewhere in July this year. While there was no mention of a specific date, the report has is now being seconded by another report from the same region with similar claims – that the Xiaomi MIUI 9 skin will be ready for rolling out in July.
The new report comes from MyDrivers, which says that even though the current MIUI 8 started rolling out in August 2016, the upcoming Xiaomi MIUI 9 will be available a month or so earlier than its predecessor. Of course, this is not something to be completely believed as the report is not coming directly from Xiaomi, which means that anything could be possible.
In fact, it’s possible that we could see the Xiaomi MIUI 9 in July as the report claims, but this might only be the beta version of the software. As for the stable release, it might be released in August, just like its predecessor.
Just like we’ve heard before, the report says that the upcoming Xiaomi MIUI 9 will ship with an inbuilt split-screen feature – a feature that was expected to appear in MIUI 8. As you may know already, this is one of the features that have made the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS such a delight to have, especially on devices with huge display screens. The tech giant is also expected to include a picture-in-picture (PIP) mode by default, a feature that will be making an official debut on Android devices via the upcoming Android O OS.
As expected, there will be other features baked into this Xiaomi MIUI 9 skin as well as a bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements as compared to the current MIUI 8. But for now, we don’t know what exactly these new additions will include.
Update: According to fresh reports, the much anticipated Xiaomi MIUI 9 will be here before August 16, but there’s still no exact date.
