Xiaomi are fast becoming popular in the field of affordable smartphones and they have strengthened their portfolio once again with the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro.

The device has just been announced at an event in Beijing. There have already been several rumors and leaks over the last few months. The official specifications announced by Xiaomi point out to an excellent device. Full metal body construction is the need of the hour in the affordable smartphone category and Xiaomi Redmi Pro becomes one of the few phones to provide this aspect.

It comes with a 5.5 inch full HD screen with OLED technology. This new technology is considered even better than some of the super AMOLED screen is especially when it comes to contrast ratios. Xiaomi Redmi Pro may not offer the QHD resolution that everyone is after, but the full HD specifications should be more than enough even for a screen of this size. OLED technology is often found in phones at a higher price bracket, but its appearance in a phone which is predominantly going to be in the mid-range smartphone segment is a welcome change.

OLED technology provides better viewing angles in addition to the better contrast ratios compared to IPS panels, which are the standard fare at this price point. Some Xiaomi phones have started featuring fingerprint scanners in the rear of the device, but the Xiaomi Redmi Pro moves this feature back to the front. This change has been done in order to accommodate the dual cameras in the rear. Dual camera is another feature which is commonly found in more expensive smartphones and it is another first for the Xiaomi line-up. The dual camera setup is primarily added to increase the depth of field. The primary camera boasts a 13-megapixel sensor while the supplementary cameras in the rear uses a five-megapixel sensor.

As a result of this setup, Xiaomi claims that the Redmi Pro will be capable of bokeheffects similar to that of a DSLR camera. Even though this is not a new feature by any means, Xiaomi offers this aspect in a budget smartphone for the first time. Other aspects of the device which users will find appealing are the extremely big 4050 mAh battery, USB Type-C port, 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and android marshmallow out of the box. The top end version of the device is priced at around $300.
