Like Samsung, Xiaomi has a huge number of smartphones on the market, but these phones are mainly sold in Asia and some parts of Africa.
Unlike Samsung, the Chinese OEM is not the best when it comes to rolling out major Android OS updates, but it does quite an impressive job when it comes to rolling out updates to its MIUI skin. In fact, there’s a new version of the MIUI skin, but the good side of the story is that this one comes with a new Android version.
Despite the fact that some Xiaomi phones will be receiving the new MIUI skin, not all devices will be part of the new Android Nougat OS. According to the Chinese OEM, only 14 phones will be receiving the updated version of Android, something that will definitely leave some users unhappy.
Among the 14 Xiaomi phones that are receiving Android Nougat OTA updates are the flagship Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus as well as the budget Redmi Note 4X. This group will receive updates to Android 7.0 Nougat and will be joined by the likes of Xiaomi Mi MIX, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi 4C, and Mi 4C in receiving the original version of Android Nougat.
As for the newer version Android 7.1 Nougat, the Chinese OEM has confirmed that the likes of Xiaomi Max 2, Mi 5C and Redmi 4X will be part of the OS. The Mi 6, which comes preinstalled with v7.1, is also part of this list.
There are some popular Xiaomi phones missing on the list, among them the Redmi Note 4, but it’s interesting to see some devices such as the original Mi Note appearing on the list of devices to be updated to Android Nougat.
So, if you have plans of buying a new Xiaomi phone and you care a lot about software updates, these listed devices are the ones to look at. As for future Xiaomi phones, all of them will come pre-installed with Android Nougat out of the box, at least until Google makes the upcoming Android O official later in August.
Many thanks for sharing…I have just had the Redmi Note 4x for 10 days…and I am glad to have made a ‘right’ choice in light of this exciting announcement!!!
