This year saw the release of the ZTE Axon 7 smartphone – a flagship that comes in with a price tag of a midranger.
Valued at just $400, the ZTE Axon 7 is a pretty cool handset that many will enjoy having in their hands. Released this year June, the Chinese OEM has shifted its focus to ensuring that the phone runs on the latest software possible at all the times.
As at the time of this writing, the ZTE Axon 7 is receiving an OTA update that brings its software version to A2017U B27, up from A2017U B20. Once you update the handset to this new software version, you will notice improvements in the RF performance, something that is a huge welcome for many. This is true because the Axon 7 has not been the best when it comes to handling cellular and Wi-Fi signals.
There have been issues with the fingerprint scanner of the ZTE Axon 7 where lags have been reported in its functionality. However, the new update takes care of this problem, meaning you get to enjoy a much faster scanner. ZTE has also made some improvements on the battery life, where the update means you get a longer life from the 3250mAh unit as opposed to previous cases. Still, it has not been determined the exact amount of extra battery life you get following the update.
In addition to improving the performance of the battery, the updated ZTE Axon 7 also comes with a new “fast battery drain” notification that serves to warn users of the phone of any apps that are topping the list of battery hogs. This feature will work even when apps are running in the background and in the process ask for your permission to shut the notorious apps down.
Other updates for the ZTE Axon 7 include a group text messaging feature as well as enhancements to the camera, among other usual improvements and bug fixes. This month’s Android Security Patch is also in the update, meaning you get the latest protection from Google.
If you haven’t yet seen the OTA notification on your ZTE Axon 7 smartphone, there is room to check for it manually through the updates settings. Furthermore, ZTE has also teased the release of the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat for the Axon 7, but there is no confirmation of when this OS will be coming to this handset.
