BMW has been extremely quick to bring out the plug-in hybrid versions of the 7 series in European markets.

The newly launched BMW 7 series has been a technological showcase in many ways. Even though little progress has been made in terms of hybrid technology, BMW is confident that the eco-version will remain popular as ever. It is preparing to launch its BMW 7 series with hybrid technology in the United States and it is much later than scheduled. The gasoline versions of the vehicle are already on sale and has proven quite a hit.

The BMW 7 series plug-in hybrid version will cost $90,095, which is slightly higher than the $85,495 price for the base gasoline version of the luxury sedan. For the slightly higher costs, customers will be getting a four-cylinder engine compared to an in-line six-cylinder engine. The engine puts out 322 bhp, which BMW claims is the highest ever figures from a four-cylinder engine made by the company. There is also 369 lb-ft of torque on offer. These figures help the BMW 7 series plug-in hybrid version to hit the 60 mph mark in just 5.1 seconds, which is an excellent figure for a vehicle of such mass.

Incidentally, the 740i xDrive sedan with a substantially more powerful six-cylinder engine is also capable of hitting the same acceleration figures. However, the 2017 BMW 740e xDrive iPerformance loses out to the considerably more powerful 750i xDrive, which has a 445 bhp engine under its belt. It is capable of achieving 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. Even though it is almost a second faster than the 2017 BMW 740e xDrive iPerformance, buyers will not be losing much when it comes to other aspects like luxury.

In fact, luxury is one of the key elements behind the popularity of the BMW 7 series. The new generation model comes with a whole host of features like the touch screen iDrive infotainment system, which can also be controlled using gestures, active seat ventilation, massage functions, seated armrests, LED headlights, ambient air package, and air-conditioning systems that can be run on the lithium ion batteries. It is also possible to get the BMW 7 series with the highly praised laser headlights. Compared with the LED headlights, laser technology manages to achieve twice the distance when it comes to illumination. The plug-in hybrid version can also drive 14 miles only on electric power.
