The newly envisioned 2017 Peugeot 3008 makes its first appearance at the Paris auto expo and this time it’s a compact SUV designed to compete against the popular Nissan Qashqai.
Paris happens to be a strong market for the Peugeot brand but the SUV will make its debut in other regions including the UK. The auto manufacturer confirmed in their reveal that the model will be available from January 2017 onwards. Everything about the new Peugeot is different right from the ride height, roof bars, increased bonnet size to the upright nose and the body cladding has been designed to represent that of a utilitarian vehicle.
Instead of making the 2017 Peugeot 3008 too mainstream with a dull appearance, the designers have given it a strikingly stylish finish with wide grille, LED headlights and more such add-ons. The car uses large 18-inch wheels giving it better ground clearance like a compact SUV and features the next i-cockpit on the inside. The dashboard and the center console seamlessly integrates with the front area of the vehicle.
The dashboard of the SUV is large and features a large 12.3-inch high resolution display allowing the driver to experience complete control over the infotainment system. It also includes media information, dials and satellite navigation map. The switches are inspired by a piano black finish and there’s another 8-inch touchscreen to control the system. The infotainment setup in the car works with Apple Car Play and Mirror Link to let users connect their smart devices to the car.
Under the hood, the 2017 Peugeot 3008 will be available in four different variants including petrol and diesel engines. The base model uses a 1.2-liter PureTech petrol engine with 128 horsepower and is mated to a six speed manual transmission system. Buyers have the option to upgrade it to an automatic gearbox while another variant will use a 1.6-liter 163 horsepower. The latter uses an automatic transmission setup. The number of diesel variants offered by the Peugeot brand is higher than the petrol variants.
While the entry level is a 1.6-liter blue HDi unit, the top of the line Peugeot 3008 is powered by a 2.0-liter BlueHDi diesel which can render up to 148 horsepower. A tweaked version of the engine can go up to 178 horsepower. Multiple features like Grip control, safety add-ons including driver attention alert, lane keep assist and automatic high beam are part of the SUV.
