The Chinese manufacturer Huawei recently made an affirmative statement on Twitter that it would be launching its M Series MediaPad M3 tablet in the United States.

The MediaPad M3 is an expensive tablet with impressive specifications, and was first unveiled by the company during the IFA 2016 even in Berlin in September. There are three different variations of the device with varying price tags according to the configuration with respect to memory and connectivity.

Dimensions, Weight and Body Material

The M3 tablet comes with a size of 215.5 x 124.2 x 7.3mm. Even though the dimensions are confirmed, there is no authentic information about the weight. However, unofficial sources put the weight to be at 290g. The device is quite sleek and thin with an all metal chassis that is an aluminum unibody. Like how tablets usually are, it is not very easy to operate the M3 with just one hand. But interestingly, when you compare its size with tablets from other manufacturers, Huawei has actually given its tablet an ergonomic size.

Screen Size and Display, Pixel Resolution and Density

The MediaPad M3 has a diagonal screen size of 8.4 inches with an IPS LCD display. Owing to QHD support, the tablet generates rich colors with a brightness of 400 nits that make its images and videos look really appealing. The device has a pixel resolution of 1600 x 2560 and a pixel density of 359ppi to assure you of sharp displays. Moreover, the M3 incorporates a feature called eye care mode to avoid strain on the eyes when it is being used. The manufacturer has also taken effort to ensure that the tablet’s screen offers resistance from scratches.

Rear and Front Cameras

One thing that definitely stands out in the MediaPad tablet in the optics department is that neither snapper supports LED flash functionality. Because of this, shooting in low light can tend to be a letdown factor. Both shooters have the same 8MP rating that make selfies and video calls with the secondary shutterbug just as clear and crisp as photos and videos shot with the primary counterpart. The rear camera meets most of the basic requirements of a snapper such as auto and touches focus, panorama, geo-tagging, HDR and face detection. It is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps.

Sound Quality

Sound is without a doubt the key highlight of the MediaPad M3. While the tablet may be smaller than many other tablets, its performance is indeed very big in the sounds arena. Partnering with various audio specialists, the manufacturer has integrated two Harmon Kardon certified speakers in its device. This ensures that the sounds generated are both loud and clear, and is termed as Super Wide Sound 3.0 by Huawei. For those who are crazy about using headsets to enjoy loud music or sound effects at its peak while playing games, fine tuning is taken into account when you wear plug-in headphones.

Hardware, Memory and Software

At first sight, the under the hood configuration tends to remind you about the company’s Mate offering – the Huawei Mate P9. However, it is here that the tablet stands apart by giving you a choice of 32GB ROM as internal storage, 64GB or 64GB with LTE connectivity support. All three models make use of 4GB RAM to account for smooth and seamless task execution, especially for those who like to work on more than one task at a time. They also come equipped with an octa core processor that clocks at 2.3GHz, a Hisilicon Kirin 950 chipset and a Mali-T880 MP4 graphical processor. Irrespective of the model, it is possible to enhance the 32GB or 64GB storage provided by a ceiling limit of 256GB thanks to a dedicated card slot provided for inserting a memory card.

Again, each model is loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. In addition, Huawei has added its own EMUI 4.1 for customization.

Sensors and Connectivity

Instead of having a separate fingerprint sensor, the manufacturer has designed the gadget such that the home button can also function as a fingerprint sensor if needed. Other sensors present are a gyroscope, a compass, an accelerometer and a proximity sensor.

As for connectivity, the tablet supports Wi-Fi (hotspot and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, microUSB v2.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.

Battery and Battery Life

The Huawei MediaPad M3 has a mammoth Li-po non-removable battery of 5,100 mAh with 11 hours run time.
