Motorola is one of the very few companies that focuses on rolling out latest Android updates to their previously released smartphones.

When the company didn’t include the Moto G4 Plus in the list of devices set to receive Android 8.0 Oreo update, users were strongly disappointed.

The news came through an official statement first when Motorola listed all the Moto Z devices, the G5 devices released recently and flagship phones to receive Oreo update in the near future. They didn’t list Moto G4 Plus and eventually, the official web page and other marketing materials were changed accordingly to reflect it. Users who were still using the 4th generation smartphone got visibly disappointed when they found out the new operating system is not rolling out for their respective devices.

After much deliberation and a lot of attention from the media, Motorola has officially decided to rollout 8.0 update for Moto G4 Plus devices. An official statement was sent by the company that read, “It has come to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing content and we sincerely apologize for the same. According to our motto, we will always roll out one major update for every phone after its release. The Moto G family has already received the updates in time. The Moto G4 Plus has already received the 7.0 Nougat operating system and Oreo was not part of the plan.”

“But, as we have previously said that the G4 Plus will receive 8.0 update, we like to keep up our word and bring it to our loyal users. However, all of you may have to wait for sometime because bringing the newest operating system to an older phone was not part of the plan. We will bring it to the official list of phones including the Moto Z series first before the developers could spend time to bring it to Moto G4 Plus devices,” clarified Motorola in their long statement.

The company added that they will always do their best to provide optimal experience for their customers and skipping older devices from receiving new operating systems is to ensure they perform without lags. The Moto G4 Plus may be able to run Android 8.0 Oreo seamlessly but it is not the experience originally intended by the company. It may have some issues and all features will not run smoothly because of the hardware used in the smartphone.
