It’s been a while since Android Marshmallow came to life, but to some people’s surprise, the OS hasn’t reached their devices just yet.
Well, this cannot be blamed on Google, because the tech giant already did its part of availing the OS back in October last year. Apparently, the delays are being caused by device OEMs and carriers. If you are using any of Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo or Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0, the wait for Android Marshmallow is finally over.
While the unlocked variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 received the Marshmallow update months ago, T-Mobile users have yet to receive the update. However, the carrier has finally announced that this 2014 phablet is now ready to receive Android Marshmallow via an OTA update. Other carriers such as Verizon and Sprint have already done their part, but it is now time for T-Mobile users to enjoy the same. The update weighs about 1.5GB and it carries version number VU1DPE3, but other devices might also receive version number VU2DPE3.
While this is happening at T-Mobile, Samsung is also pushing out an update of its own. The South Korean tech giant has readied the Marshmallow update for those using Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo, a phone that was released last year. The update carries build number G903FXXU1BPD4 and it comes to Galaxy S5 Neo with model number SM-G903F. Apparently, this update is rolling out in the UK, Austria, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands, with other regions expected to follow sooner than later.
Like with the case of Samsung Galaxy Note 4, those using the Galaxy S5 Neo will be receiving Android Marshmallow as an OTA update. Meaning this update will not hit all units at the same time.
Verizon is also busy with spreading the reach of Google’s Android Marshmallow with the four-month-old Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0. The update brings the device’s software version to T377VVRU1BPD6 and it brings everything you can think of with respect to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, alongside the June Android security patch.
The most notable features that Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S5 Neo and Galaxy Tab E 8.0 will receive includes Doze mode, Google Now on Tap, App Standby as well as new apps permissions system.
Again, remember that the updates are being rolled out over the air. So, if you have not seen an OTA notification on your device, you can manually check for the update’s availability via Settings>About device>Software update.
