After what feels like an extremely long wait, the Apple iPhone 7 is officially here and set to stay as the best iPhone for the next 12 months.
However, is it sufficiently good enough for you to upgrade or is it a better idea to wait for the iPhone 7S in 2017. There are even rumors that Apple may skip the 7S favor of the iPhone 8, which is rumored to have several ground-breaking features.
The Apple iPhone 7 has been a major disappointment in terms of aspects like display, charging, and support for existing headphones. The display on the Apple iPhone 7 and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus remain the same 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches in size. The similarity in terms of size extends to the resolution and other aspects. In the age when smartphones are gunning towards the 4K display as a standard element, a maximum pixel density of 401 PPI does not make for a great reading.
Wireless charging has become less popular in the last 12 months due to the advent of fast charging on an even bigger scale. Yet, the new iPhones do not offer both. The lightning port, which was introduced a few years ago, remains a great way of charging but it severely lags behind the likes of dash charging on the OnePlus 3. The lack of a 3.5 mm headphone socket means that it is no longer easy to connect existing crop of headphones to the iPhone 7 even though Apple has provided a tiny adapter.
Even with all these disadvantages, the Apple iPhone 7 is worth considering for reasons like the new home button and an excellent camera. The phone also ditches the 16 GB variant with the 32 GB model made as the base edition. Likewise, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus is set to arrive with 3 GB of RAM although the iPhone 7 continues with the same 2 GB. The home button has been built like a mini trackpad on the MacBook since it is not a physical button as such but offers artificial haptic feedback.
Water resistance may not be a great deal to many, but it does prevent the iPhone 7 from an accidental drop into the water. The phone has one of the best cameras – a 12-megapixel f/1.8 lens – in the business. The Apple iPhone 7 may not be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 6S, but it will be loved by iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 users.
