Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS has finally released the Android 9 Pie update to its ASUS Zenfone 5Q, Zenfone 5 Lite and Zenfone 5 Selfie Pro phones.
According to Asus ZenTalk thread, this update is designated 16.0610.1905.79 and has been released for ASUS Zenfone 5Q, Zenfone 5 Lite & Zenfone 5 Selfie Pro (ZC600KL). As expected, this is an OTA update; thus it will arrive in different serial numbers at different times. It may take a few days for you to receive the FOTA notice. You are requested to be patient. However, if you are eager to get the update, you may tap “System updates” in [Settings] > [System] to check if there is new firmware available.

This update was supposed to arrive a few months ago but was delayed for some reasons. Recall that the ASUS Zenfone 5 Lite is also known as Zenfone 5Q in the US and it was released with ZenFone 5 and Zenfone 5Z last year. Early this year, the Zenfone 5 and 5Z got the Android 9 Pie update and it was believed that the Zenfone 5 Lite will get the same in the first half of the year. The first half of the year ended in June but despite the wait, the update is now available for users globally. According to the release notes, it appears that this update comes with only the Android 9 Pie OS upgrade and does not add any other security fix.
Unlike the ZenFone 5 and 5Z, ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite came with Android 7.0 Nougat while the formers came with Android 8.0 Oreo. Thus, the delay is understood because this smartphone skips the Oreo update and ports directly to Android 9 Pie.
As for the ASUS ZenFone 5 Selfie Pro, it is basically the same as the ASUS ZenFone 5Q/5 Lite. The major difference is that the ZenFone 5 Selfie Pro comes with 64 GB internal storage against the 32 GB storage of the ZenFone 5Q. There are other minor differences in selfie camera, video capability, and Bluetooth.
