Asus ROG Phone 2 with 12GB RAM and Snapdragon 855+ Appears on Geekbench

The upcoming Asus ROG Phone 2 has appeared on Geekbench and its scores (especially the multi-core score) show that it uses the recently released Snapdragon 855+ SoC.

According to the latest Geekbench listing, the Asus ROG Phone 2 will have a 12 GB RAM variant. The single-core score hit 3616 points while the multi-core score hit 11103. These scores are quite higher than the Snapdragon 855 scores. The best performing SD855 phone on Geekbench is Xiaomi Black Shark 2 which got 3428 and 10771 in its single and multi-core test respectively. Thus, the Asus ROG Phone 2 is probably sporting the upgraded Snapdragon 855+ SoC which was officially released by Qualcomm yesterday. This chip clocks 1.78 GHz and the smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie.

Certifications Obtained

The Asus ROG Phone 2 has been certified in Taiwan’s NCC with model number variants – ASUS_I001D & ASUS_I001DC. In addition, two variants were also certified in China’s CCC with model variants ASUS_I001DA (18W charging) & ASUS_I001DB (30W charging). Furthermore, the Wi-Fi Alliance has also certified this smartphone. With all these certifications, it is certain that this smartphone will be arriving soon. In fact, there are reports that this device will be launched on July 23 in partnership with PUBG game maker Tencent.

What We Know So Far

Although nothing about this smartphone has been confirmed, a couple of real images surfaced online shows us what the design of this smartphone will look like. Generally, it retains the appearance of the Asus ROG phone and does not use a notch but may use a dual-speaker solution. According to the latest speculations, the Asus ROG Phone 2 display has a refresh rate 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz. Thus, users have the option of up to 120Hz.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+

This smartphone is basically the first device to use the SD855+ which was released yesterday. As per Qualcomm’s release notes, the SD855+ is simply an upgrade of the Snapdragon 855 with better performance, AI, XR, and 5G experiences. Qualcomm said that this chip comes with its fourth-generation multi-core AI Engine which ensures a highly responsive gaming experience. With over 7 trillion operations per second (7TOPs) and proprietary programmable AI acceleration, this chip is ahead of its peers.
