The grand reveal continues as Bentley showcased its all-electric EXP 12 Speed 6e concept model.
The automobile brand wanted to show how their future cars, the ones powered by an electric motor could look like.
Bentley is a luxury car manufacturer known for their absolute exquisite build. They don’t compete with the likes of BMW, Audi or Volkswagen among other mainstream brands. Instead, their audience is always niche and the EXP 12 Speed 6e is geared towards satisfying their needs. The company has been showing consistent interest in developing fully electric, autonomous vehicles. The EXP 10 Speed 6 was launched at the Geneva show in 2015 while this year they have come up with an ultra-luxury convertible.
While it can easily win hands down in terms of style, the car’s total mile range of 310 miles is what sets it apart. Almost all top brands have managed to create electric cars that offer over 300 miles on a single charge and some of them are already available in stores. Tesla is not the only one interested in EVs anymore as the new car from Bentley is strikingly impressive. It borrows design elements from the EXP 10 concept and features twin headlights, alloy wheels as well as tiny cameras instead of mirrors.
Being a Cabriolet makes the Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e concept alluring. It has no top section while the interior is packed to the brim. The dashboard features solid glass center console with a high resolution display mounted on top. The steering wheel features an incomplete design making it easy to read the digital instrument cluster located behind it.
In the performance department, the new concept is powered by an electric motor that is already used by the Porsche Mission E. The battery can reach 80 percent charge with just 15 minutes of charging. Fast charging is essential for cars as you can’t wait hours for the vehicle to charge during a long road trip. Based on what the Porsche Mission E offers, we know that the motor can deliver 592 horsepower with an acceleration capacity that allows it to reach 62 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e is not ambitious but rather looks stylish, a perfect electric cabriolet designed for the everyday buyer. The brand plans to start with a plug-in hybrid Bentley Bentayga in 2018 before moving to an all-electric setup. The concept car has more of a codename now and will have an actual name when it goes close to the production phase.
