The MG SX is a completely revised version of the popular SUV which was officially launched at the London Motor Show.
As with all other launch events, the show detailed the specifications of the car which are custom made to compete with the popular SsangYong Tivoli and the Nissan Juke. The new design is very bold, aggressive and quite on par with what people have been expecting the XS SUV to sport. The new revamped family face is expected to be implemented on all upcoming cars in the lineup in the following months.
During the show, the automobile manufacturer confirmed that the MG XS will be arriving in stores towards the end of 2017. It would have been great if the company listed the official price tag for the entry level model. However, they withheld the information and the pricing of the base model is unknown at the moment. The team did confirm that it will be priced competitively so as to efficiently compete with other crossovers in the market that are compact and fall in the same category.
Based on this statement, it could be very well priced around £13,000. The crossover model was made in China and will be distributed in the UK. It will be sold as the XS in the region and has the ZS badge in its original production region. The naming trends continues to be different so that there is no confusion among buyers when it comes to opting one of the SUVs from the MG brand. Under the hood, the car is powered by a 1.0-liter petrol engine and a 1.5-liter engine is optional which will arrive after the initial launch.
The base engine can produce up to 123 horsepower coupled with 170Nm of torque and the bigger 1.5-liter petrol engine can produce about 164 horsepower with 250Nm of torque. The car will be using a six-speed manual transmission system while an optional seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox system will also be provided for those who prefer it.
The MG XS SUV is the first of many as the brand has plans to expand the lineup with PHEV models and electric cars in the next 18 months. The information with regards to the SUV remain sparse at the moment but we will know more when it comes close to a launch date. The design and the proposed pricing, powertrain is promising which might give MG the competitive edge in the market against similarly powered compact crossovers.
