Battle royales are known to have certain complexities associated with them.
This also gives developers the opportunity to roll out updates and fixed at regular intervals. So, while a game like Call of Duty: Warzone always needs updates, the developing team is quite prompt in this regard and resolves an issue as soon as it crops up. Those who play the game will vouch for the fact that it gets improved almost every single day.
Now, to add some more convenience to the game, the developers might include an option for the players to determine whether they wish to use the gas mask or not. Though most people would agree to the fact that the gas mask is not one of the most important items in the game, some additional amount of ease is always welcome.
When the player suffers from the risk of getting suffocated by the gas in the battle royale zone, the mask will get activated automatically and ensure the player remains safe for a certain amount of time. Though the mask works fairly well, one can do a few things to improve upon it.
Season 5 of Warzone is adding an option for players to manually toggle their gas mask on or off.
The mask will still be automatically taken off if it breaks mid gunfight, but this is a major request that players have been asking for since Warzone launched.

Giving Call of Duty: Warzone players the freedom to use the gas mask as and when they like, enables them to exercise better control over their strategies. For instance, players will now have the option of saving the mask for an emergency situation. A toggle has been provided in the latest update to ensure players find it easy to control the usage of the mask. Though it is disabled at the moment, players should be able to turn it on soon.
As of now, no confirmation has been offered by the developers on when players will get the opportunity to unlock the mask functionality. There is a very good chance of that happening with the launch of the fifth season of Call of Duty: Warzone towards the end of August.
