Some Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X users haven’t received Android Oreo OTA

It’s been over two months since the first units of the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X received the OTA update to the new Android Oreo OS.

Google started rolling out the OS towards the end of August and up to now, a huge chunk of Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X as well as those on the 2016 Pixel phones are already using the new OS. As expected, the OS was first rolled out to those who were taking part in the beta program and in the weeks that followed, the rest of the Google devices’ family also received the same treat.

If anything, this is just a typical software update, where not all units receive the OTA notification at the same time. In fact, it’s because of this reason that Google has ensured owners of the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X can enjoy other alternatives of installing the latest software on their phones – and it seems this might be the best option at this point in time.

According to some users of the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the OTA notification for Android Oreo has not yet arrived on their phones. This is something very strange, even for those using carrier-based models of the phones. Even though it does take time before all units are updated to a new software version, waiting for more than two months is not Google’s style of doing things.

Luckily, there is a way out. If you haven’t received the update to Android Oreo on your Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X or even any of the two Pixels from 2016, you can also download the update and sideload it on your phone. However, remember to create a backup of your personal data before sideloading the new OS.
