As the enthusiastic buyers gear up to get their hands on the latest Google Pixel and Pixel XL, there are those who are still adamant that the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are still valuable assets to flaunt around with.
One thing that the Google Pixel and Pixel XL bring to the fold is software exclusivity. The two were launched with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and it happens that they are the only devices to sport this OS. While it has been rumored that the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will be ready to receive beta versions of this newer version of Nougat later this month, there are some smart developers who are already doing marvelous things with the current software offerings.
Just a little while ago, we reported of how you can get the Google Assistant working on your one-year-old Google Nexus 6P through the help of the Xposed module and AndroidN-ify. Now, thanks to the supplied system images of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL and some other tricks, users of Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X can enjoy the same version of the Google Camera 4.2 that is being used on the Google Pixel phones.
Keep in mind that the new Google Camera app will not work on devices that are not installed with Android Nougat. Furthermore, since it only works with ARM64 devices, only Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X can benefit from this development.
The new Camera app can be downloaded from the official XDA Developers page. Apparently, there are no major changes to the app, of course, apart from forcing it to work on Android 7.0 Nougat. However, you will still get the same experience and functionality as if you were using it on a Google Pixel or Pixel XL phone.
