Google Pixel XL is No Match for OnePlus 3T – A Better Selfie Camera and Affordability Make OnePlus Stand Out

Google Pixel XL vs OnePlus 3T

There is no arguing against the fact that Google Pixel XL and OnePlus 3T are the two of the best devices in the smartphone world right now.

What makes the two the best in the market right now is that they come packing the best hardware specs and features that are rare to find on one handset, especially when looking at other handsets in the same market. The two have lots of similarities, but as usual, there is always one or two things that make one device stand out in a multitude of others.

Many people today are always looking for a phone that has the best camera out there, carries top-of-the-table specs and is also pocket-friendly. Well, if you are after such a phone, you can’t do better than the latest OnePlus 3T.

Both Google Pixel XL and OnePlus 3T come with the same screen size of 5.5 inches. The two went for Samsung’s AMOLED panels, but the former has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels as compared to the 1920 x 1080 pixels found on the latter. Of course, with a higher resolution Google Pixel XL screen, you are promised of better, sharper visual quality than what the OnePlus 3T delivers, but this won’t be easily noticeable to the naked eye. Unless you are into VR and such stuff, you will still be pleased with what OnePlus offers – something that iPhone 7 Plus users can testify.

Under the hood, OnePlus 3T outshines the Google Pixel XL. While the two share the same Snapdragon 821 processor and 128GB of storage, you get 6GB RAM on the former as opposed to 4GB RAM available on the Pixel XL. Even though there are two variants in each case, the base model of the Pixel XL has 32GB storage while OnePlus 3T doubles this storage size for its base model. Both phones have no room for microSD card storage.

When it comes to the battery life, the two should be around the same region, with OnePlus 3T carrying a 3400mAh unit as compared to 3450mAh found on the Google Pixel XL. Given that the latter has more pixels to power, it is likely that the former could end up with a longer battery life, but this will depend a lot on what you are actually using the phone for.

As usual, the Google Pixel XL gets the nod when it comes to software. Powered by the latest Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, those using this handset will also be the first to receive any major software update. For instance, all Pixel XL users are already receiving the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, yet those on OnePlus 3 are still waiting for Android 7.0 Nougat update to show up on their devices. As for now, you get to use last year’s Android Marshmallow out of the box.

Now, on matters camera and price, you will love the OnePlus 3T. The phone comes with a 16MP snapper on both sides, yet the Google Pixel XL only manages a 12.3MP snapper on the main camera and an 8MP lens for selfies. While it has been touted that the number of megapixels doesn’t really count when it comes to quality of images, the fact that OnePlus 3T adds other features such as OIS and EIS means that it gets the better of the Pixel XL, which only comes with EIS on the main camera and no OIS.

It gets even more interesting when it comes to the pricing aspect. The entry level Google Pixel XL is valued at $769 while the 128GB model comes with a price tag of $869. On the contrary, the base model of OnePlus 3T is priced at $439 while the high-end variant comes in at $479.

In case you are still wondering why OnePlus 3T wins this battle, it is because it comes with more RAM, a base unit of 64GB, an enhanced selfie camera as well as an unbeatable price tag.
