Not so long ago Google unveiled a new Project Fi program that allowed current users to refer others to the Google-owned wireless service and in the process gift both parties a $20 credit.
While this referral program was supposed to end on January 11, 2017, it seems current Google Project Fi users will still have enough time to keep inviting more and more users to the platform. In order to enjoy Project Fi, one must be using any of the few supported Google devices and these include the new Pixel phones, 2015’s pair of Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X as well as the Motorola-made Nexus 6.
The Google Project Fi referral program seems to have shown some really impressive response and hence this new move by the search engine giant, 9to5Google notes.
Just in case you are still in the dark, Google Project Fi is a wireless service that begun as an experimental platform and as it seems, Google wants to expand as far as possible. The service works in partnership with T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular to give you phone and data services. This means that your phone will only connect to the strongest network available from these three at a given moment. To help you save your mobile date, Project Fi also lets your device automatically connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots, but only when any of these free internet points has a better connection than the three supported carriers. Don’t worry about your privacy when connected to the usually unsafe public Wi-Fi hotspots as Google says that the whole thing is protected by the company’s layer of encryption.
Google Project Fi also boasts one of the best plans out there. You pay $20 per month and this earns you unlimited calls and texts locally. Chip in an extra $10 per month and you get 1GB of data. If you happen to use about 750MB of data for the entire month (probably due to using a lot of Wi-Fi thanks to Fi’s Wi-Fi Assistant that allows seamless switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi hotspots), the carrier will only charge for the used data, that is, $7.50. The remaining balance of $2.50 will be carried forward and when you pay for data the next month, you only have to part with $7.50 to get the same 1GB data. The same will also apply if you use more than 1GB per month. You will also be charged for the extra data used at the same rate, meaning you pay more on your next billing.
Keep in mind that even though Google Project Fi referral program has been extended indefinitely, the search engine giant warns that it can end anytime. With this in mind, make sure you take advantage of this extension while it lasts.
If you are already using Project Fi, you can refer up to 10 people and if anyone joins the service and stays in good standing for one month (30 days), both you and your friend will get a $20 credit. What if all of your 10 friends come aboard? You are standing the chance of getting a cool $200 credit from Google – hurry up and take your chances now!
