New OnePlus 3 and 3T OxygenOS 4.0.2 OTA update fixes Google Play Store bug

OnePlus 3T Android Nougat

OnePlus 3 and 3T started receiving Android 7.0 Nougat in the final hours of last year, something that meant not every user of the phone was able to get it last year as promised by the Chinese OEM.

The update to Nougat did not just bring a new OS to the 2016 flagships, but it also brought a new OxygenOS 4.0 skin. Like many other Android OEMs, OnePlus 3 and 3T don’t run on stock Android OS, instead, the experience has been tweaked to suit the company’s desires and how it would like users to know it. Unfortunately, this new OxygenOS skin came along with some issues related to the Google Play Store, a very essential application of all Android phones.

The company has now begun the official rolling out of OxygenOS 4.0.2 that comes with fixes to this issue and it is rolling out to both OnePlus 3 and the newer 3T. Apparently, those who were experiencing download issues with the Google Play Store should have something to smile about, with the changelog noting that this issue has been taken care of.

So, if you have been having some trouble downloading Play Store apps on your OnePlus 3 or 3T phone, make sure you download and install this new update. As usual with such minor updates, OEMs also include stability and performance improvements, something the company also points out in the changelog.

Since this update is coming in as an OTA, not all OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones will receive the notification at once. In fact, we don’t expect OnePlus to stray from its usual plan of first rolling out the update to a smaller group before embarking on a major rollout that takes into account all handsets. Still, you can check whether the update is ready for downloading on your phone by going to About settings and then find the Software updates option. If you are lucky, your phone should be running on the new OxygenOS 4.0.2 a few minutes from now.

OnePlus 3T

While many OnePlus 3 and 3T owners are eagerly waiting for Android 7.1.1 Nougat, this new update doesn’t bring the said OS. But hopefully, the company is working on rolling out the more advanced version in the coming days. We’ll for sure let you know when this happens!
