Google has released the developer preview for Android Nougat 7.1 version for the Nexus devices earlier on this month. Important to Remember
Users of the Huawei Nexus 6P devices have been advised to ensure that their devices have been fully charged prior to downloading the new update. Users have also been asked to back up any important data on their phones, such as photographs or contacts and messages and so on. Users of the phone will get notification regarding the availability of the OTA of the firmware for their phones. The users can also update their phones by downloading the new 7.1.1 update from the System updating option seen in the About tab in Settings.

According to the site, the update will be rolled out in a progressive manner. The user will get an alert through the OTA push messages. Alternatively, users can also make a manual checkup of the update. Ten thousand phones have been selected for getting the push message for the first three days.
From the fourth day to the thirteenth day, another 10% of the rest of the devices will be selected every day and the users must check out their phones manually. On the fourteenth day, all the devices will be eligible for this update.
Developer Preview Available
The developer preview of the Android 7.1 version is now available in case of the Nexus 6P as well as the 5X and the Pixel C devices. This implies that all users of the Nexus P devices will get the new 7.1.1 update by the 20th of December. But Google has not made this news official as yet. The new update brings along several new features, namely shortcuts for apps and support for image keyboard.
Parity with Pixel Devices
The new update 7.1.1 will be released to consumers along with the security patch for the month of December. The over the air update comes within two weeks of the Developer preview and it brings the Nexus devices on to the same software as the Pixel and the Pixel XL devices. The 7.1 version of Android software was initially launched on Pixel devices. Later, it was available for the 5X, the 6P and the Pixel C through developer previews.
Will this be pushed to Nexus 7 tablets, too?
