After the failed deal between Google and Huawei as far as the successor to the Nexus 6P is concerned, the Chinese OEM unveiled a new series dubbed Huawei Nova.
The Huawei Nova and Nova Plus have proved to be a success and hence the tech giant has just unveiled their successors, the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus. After appearing in leaks and rumors, it appears that a lot of what we knew before has actually materialized. The two will be coming to you in several color variants of Aurora Blue, Rose Gold, Black, Pink and Grass Green, however, they are currently available in China alone via the official Huawei online store.
Where the standard Huawei Nova 2 has model number BAC-AL00, the Nova 2 Plus carries model number PIC-AL00. As expected from devices that are not targeting the high-end market, the two have decent prices of $CNY 2499 and CNY 2899. When converted, it means you can grab the former at $365 and the latter model at about $420, same as the more powerful and feature-packed Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship.
One would be wondering what specs and features the Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus bring to the fold. Well, the former has a 5-inch display screen with a 1080p resolution while the latter gives you a bigger 5.5-inch display screen with the same resolution, meaning the Nova 2 has a sharper view than the Nova 2 Plus. Under the hood, the Nova 2 has a Kirin 659 SoC that is paired with a 4GB RAM module alongside 64GB of expandable storage. Keeping it alive is a 2950mAh battery unit that is charged via a USB Type-C port.
The power of the Huawei Nova 2 lies in the photography aspect. There’s a powerful 12MP+8MP dual-lens setup on the back that is supported by another massive 20MP shooter on the front. There’s a fingerprint scanner on the back for authentication purposes. The Nova 2 Plus, on the other hand, keeps the same Kirin 659 SoC, 4GB RAM and camera setups, but it bumps the storage to a massive 128GB, which can still be expanded via a microSD card slot. Being the high-end variant, the Huawei Nova 2 Plus gets a bigger battery of 3340mAh that is also charged via a USB Type-C port.
In terms of design, the Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus are actually the same, with their size the only physical difference. In terms of software, you get Android 7.0 Nougat and the company’s EMUI 5.1 skin on top.
