Karbonn has a made a name for itself in the Indian smartphone market.
Following the launch of its medium priced Quattro L55 HD in July 2016, the manufacturer made available its Fashion Eye shortly afterwards for a lesser price tag. At present, the handset can be bought only through online stores. For its price, the gadget has some really interesting features up its sleeve. This Android smartphone is available only in champagne color for now and supports 3Gconnectivity and dual SIM option. While one of the SIM card slots supports micro SIM, the other slot is capable of housing a nano SIM.
Dimensions, Weight and Body Material
The Karbonn Fashion Eye is neither too big nor too small with its size of 145 x 72 x 8mm. The handset is not too bulky either and weighs 141g. Going with the trend adopted by medium priced gadgets, the Fashion Eye makes use of a plastic body with a metallic finish on the sides. Overall, you can accommodate this device comfortably both in your pocket and in your hand. To give it an appealing look, the back panel has a patterned texture.
Screen Display, Size, Pixel Resolution and Pixel Density
The screen is not at all a letdown in the Fashion Eye. Sporting a size of 5 inches, the IPS LCD HD screen is fully laminated and features a 2.5D curved glass. The pixel resolution and pixel density are also pretty decent with values of 1280 x 720 and 294ppi respectively. Overall, the smartphone assures its users of wide viewing angles, vivid colors and sharper displays. All these factors contribute to making the screen output quite appealing. The scratch-resistant attribute for the glass used is another key attraction.
Primary and Secondary Cameras
Photos and videos shot with the Karbonn Fashion Eye do depict their fair share of clarity. The rear 8MP shooter uses a CMOS sensor with LED flash, while offering pixel resolutions of 3264 x 2448 and 1280 x 720 in that order. Although there are no specific or unique features pertaining to this camera, it supports almost all of the commonly used functionalities. These include HDR, panorama, autofocus, touch focus, smile and face detections, geo-tagging, white balance presets and more. On the front, the handset utilizes a 3.2MP secondary camera with 2048 x 1536 image resolution and 640 x 480 video resolution for selfies and video calls. Both the primary and secondary snappers record videos at the rate of 30 fps.
Hardware, Memory and Operating System
You can be assured of flawless multitasking when you switch between apps using the Fashion Eye owing to the quad core processor ticking at 1.3GHz, a MediaTek MT6580 chipset and an ARM Mali-400 chipset. In addition to this, the device supports the standard 1GB RAM with 8GB ROM as internal memory. This can be increased further by 32GB. The only small drawback that can be said is regarding the operating system used. While really affordable handsets are available with Android 6.0 Marshmallow installed or an update to this version possible, Karbonn’s handset comes with the earlier Android 5.1 Lollipop loaded. There is no information if this can be upgraded. It must also be noted at this point that the latest Android 7.0 Nougat is also out and on its way to find its place in selected handsets.
Battery and Battery Life
The Li-ion battery in the Karbonn Fashion Eye is removable and has 2,000 mAh capacity which gives you a little more than one day of uninterrupted usage on full charge. On an average, the smartphone offers 10 hours of talk time and 220 hours of stand-by time when used over 2G and 3G networks before completely running out of juice. The gadget does not offer support for 4G connectivity. This is at par with other similar devices in the market today.
Although the Fashion Eye is not going to be your device if you want 4G connectivity, the 2G/3G supporting smartphone has a range of other standard connectivity options. These comprise Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi hot spot and dual band, USB 2.0 and micro USB, GPRS, FM Radio, 3.5 mm audio jack and EDGE. It also renders GPS and A-GPS positioning support.
The manufacturer has incorporated the normal sensors like proximity sensor and ambient light sensors into the Karbonn Fashion Eye.
