Motorola is now owned by Lenovo and ever since this deal happened, the former’s brand has not yet regained its past status in the smartphone industry.
Despite everything, the Chinese-owned Motorola is still in business this coming year and according to the latest reports, there’s a new Moto X 2017 in the making that should be released, as the name suggests, in 2017.
This year Lenovo did not launch any new handset in the Moto X series and as such, speculations are rife that the tech giant will cover up for this miss at the beginning of 2017. If you have met the Moto Z already, it is said that the Moto X 2017 will have some design similarities with the handset, but don’t expect the modular design to be carried over to the X series. In fact, the leaked Moto X 2017 looks more like a Moto Maxx or Moto Droid Turbo than a Moto Z with the fingerprint scanner placed on the front panel, like what you see on the Moto Z series.
In terms of specs, rumors claim that Lenovo will pack the Moto X 2017 with a slightly smaller 5.2-inch screen that is clad in a full-metal body but don’t be surprised if this screen size is reduced further to a 5-inch panel.
There is little to say right now about the Moto X 2017, but given the latest leaks, it is possible that Lenovo has plans to unveil the phone in early 2017, probably at the MWC 2017 event. Speaking of the MWC 2017 event, it will be held on February 27 and as usual, other smartphone makers such as Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, Sony, and so on, will be expected to grace the occasion with their 2017 flagships. These include the Galaxy S8, LG G6, Xiaomi Mi6, among others.
Keep in mind that this is just a rumor and as such, there might be changes to the story. With reports claiming that Lenovo also wants to release the Moto M and even Moto C series, who knows what the latest leaked phone might turn out to be. But we’ll keep following and bring you the latest developments.
