Motorola was listed as the leading company when it came to rolling out Android Marshmallow to eligible handsets and as far as things are, the Lenovo-owned brand is after retaining the crown for the latest Android Nougat.
Just hours after launching the Moto M in India, the tech giant went to Twitter with a confirmation message that the handset will be receiving the latest Android Nougat in the near future. The Moto M was launched on Tuesday and came in powered with Android Marshmallow out of the box, but an update to the latest version will be out soon.
Priced at Rs. 15,999, the Moto M happens to be the first all-metal clad phone from the renowned smartphone company, however, this feat did not have a huge effect on the pricing of the phone. The Moto M carries a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen that has a 2.5D curved glass and 1920 x 1080 resolution. Under the hood, the handset comes with a quad-core processor from MediaTek, the Helio P15 SoC, clocked at a speed of 2.2GHz. This has been paired with a RAM of 3GB while the storage stands at 32GB. If this is not enough for you, the Moto M has another variant that ships with 64GB of onboard storage alongside a RAM of 4GB.
In terms of cameras, the Moto M has a huge 16MP snapper on the back, with Lenovo throwing in PDAF and LED flash. As for the selfie camera, you get a decent 8MP snapper. Like many other handsets being launched this second half of 2016, the Moto M comes with support for USB-C, NFC, and 4G VoLTE, but you still get to enjoy the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.
Even though Motorola has confirmed that the Moto M will indeed be updated to Android Nougat, there is no word on which version of this OS the device will receive. Android 7.0 Nougat was released in August for Google devices, but the newer Android 7.1.1 Nougat started rolling out a few weeks ago. Whether the Moto M will be updated to this newer version or not will soon be known, but as for now, we’ll have to wait and see what the company has in plan.
