Moto’s G4 Announced – A Decent Upgrade at a Small Premium

The three new smartphones from Lenovo’s Moto are the Moto G4 and the G4 Plus and the G4 Play, which were recently launched.

It is the fourth generation of the Moto series. The top version is the G4 Plus, which comes with a RAM of 4 GB and 64 GB memory. In case of the G4, there is one version with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB storage and another version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB memory. The G4 and the G4 Plus are similar, whereas the G4 Play is an entirely different device and is likely to be the cheapest among the three phones, as it is the most inferior of the three.

Fingerprint Scanner

The feature is a new addition to the G series and it has been optimized to offer a quick and effective response. The G4 Plus will come with this feature, but the basic model, the G4 will not have the fingerprint scanner feature.

Design and Display

Both the G4 and the G4 Plus have the same front camera of 5 MP, but the rear camera is different. The G4 has a 13 MP rear camera, whereas the G4 Plus has a 16 MP rear or primary camera. In addition, the G4 Plus also features the laser auto focus feature with PDAF and LED flash. The lens of the G4 Plus has an aperture of f/2.0 and it also offers high definition video recording. In addition, the camera on the G4 Plus also offers a Pro mode.

The new 16 MP camera of the Plus seems to be a big point in case of the G4 Plus and Motorola is depending on it to be the incentive for spending the additional amount on this model. It is touted that the quality of the photos is better than the 6S and the 6S Plus from Apple. However, this applies only to photo qualities, whereas the video quality is definitely not superior.

G4 and G4 Plus – The Differences

The G4 has an octa core processor, Snapdragon, 617, powered at 1.5 GHz and is combined with a RAM of 2 GB and 16 GB of memory, which can be expanded to 128 GB using a microSD card. The battery is powered at 3000 mAh and it offers Turbo charging facility. The processor is the same for the G4 Plus and so is the battery. This is the battery size that has been offered by Moto for all its flagship smartphones. According to Motorola, users can get nearly 6 hours of phone use with merely fifteen minutes of charging.

The G4 uses the Android 6.0, Marshmallow as its operating system, which is used over the Moto Pure. The G4 is 4G enabled and has two SIMs, supporting 3G as well as 4G VOLTE. The microSD card remains the same for both the G4 and the G4 Plus and offers support for up to 128 GB.
