Official: Xiaomi Mi 6 Launch happening on April 19

Xiaomi Mi 6

The past 24 hours have been action packed as far as Xiaomi Mi 6 is concerned. Yesterday, we stumbled upon a report saying that the Mi could be confirmed today.

A few hours later, another leak came in courtesy of benchmarking platform AnTuTu, adding more weight to previous GFXBench benchmarks that had also given us a clue of the specs to expect on the Xiaomi Mi 6. And not so long ago, another leak came in courtesy of China’s Weibo and this one had more to with the expected price of not just the Mi 6, but also the Mi 6 Plus.

Now, according to the latest reports coming from China, Xiaomi will be holding an event on April 19, during which the Mi 6 is to be confirmed. We are not sure if the phone will go on sale the same day, but it’s possible that official availability could happen a week or so later.

If Xiaomi manages to start shipping the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus as early as May, it would indeed be a perfect timing for those who are looking for a high-performance phone that is not as costly as Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The two are also set to be available for shipping at the time Xiaomi Mi 6 will be launched, but they have a price tag of at least $720 for the base model and up to $1000 for the high-end S8+ model.

Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus

Interestingly, the Xiaomi Mi 6 will reportedly ship with the same hardware specs and possibly features as the Galaxy S8 and S8+, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB storage. However, previous leaks suggested that the base model will be valued at about $320 while the high-end variant will start at about $390 and go all the way to just $535 for the 6GB/256GB variant of the Mi 6 Plus.

Benchmarks have revealed a 12MP main camera and an 8MP front shooter, but reports are adamant that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will debut a dual-lens camera setup. The company has just confirmed the launch date, but there’s still no word on specs and pricing, so take these reports with a grain of salt. But since April 19 is just next week Wednesday, it won’t be long before we get the finer details of the phone.
