The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have issues with the Touch Responsiveness, which has not been rectified even after the OxygenOS 4.0 update based on Android Nougat.
The problem is termed as touch latency and refers to a lag between the response on the device and the movement of the finger on the screen. Even after the update to Android Nougat, 7.0 version, users find that the responsiveness of the touchscreen still shows a lag.
Touch Latency
There are many video clippings that show a comparison between the OnePlus 3T device and some other flagship devices of other manufacturers. The comparison proves that the OnePlus 3T does have a touch latency issue.
The problem was first raised by some users of the OnePlus 3T back in November 2016. They felt that the smartphone was responding sluggishly. The touch latency time for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T was found to be nearing 100 ms, which is double that of other flagship smartphones, such as HTC 10 or Galaxy S7.
Sluggish Response
Many customers noted the sluggish response and after the first reports started coming in, Carl Pei, the founder of OnePlus tweeted saying that OnePlus was quite aware of the problem. He, however, stated that the new update for Android Nougat, 7.0 would solve the problem. The company had decided to ship a ROM based on the Android Nougat by the end of 2016. In all fairness, OnePlus did keep up this promise on the 1st of January this year.
Carl Pei added that the touch latency would be optimized after the concerned devices received the Nougat build at the end of 2016. However, the fix for the touchscreen optimizing has not been implemented.
Problem with Firmware
The problem of the touch latency in the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T devices has been mentioned on various websites and forums, such as XDA Forum and the Reddit site. One of the members on the XDA Forum claims that the issue is connected with the setting for move sensitivity in the firmware of the device. The move sensitivity has been set a little too high. This implies that when the user places his or her finger on the touchscreen of the device and moves it slowly, there is a hesitation or lag on the part of the screen before starting to move. This kind of lag is not seen in other flagship devices.
Effect of Lag
Due to this problematic lag, it becomes very difficult for users to type out words, says one of the contributors to the OnePlus forum. The OnePlus 3T device is a high end smartphone and runs on the Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 821. It has a RAM of 6 GB.
Update to OxygenOS 4.0
In addition, the update to OxygenOS 4.0 for both the devices has brought in more issues, namely the Wi Fi connectivity problem. The OnePlus 3T has already received a small update with the OxygenOS 4.0.2, but there are still some unresolved issues.
I have never had an issue on my OP3 running the community build.
