OnePlus 3, the phone that demand outshone supply a few months ago, will soon be receiving the new Android 7.0 Nougat software update.
This software has been around for some time now, but only a handful of Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are currently using the OS. There is an LG V20 that is set to join them as from today, but this will only be happening in South Korea. But if you are a OnePlus 3 user, the wait shouldn’t be long thanks to the confirmation by the company that works on the software update are already under way.
When asked when Android 7.0 Nougat will show up on the OnePlus 3 during a Reddit AMA, a company official was careful with the choice of words in the response, stating that even though there is no definite date, the works on the update are already in progress. Like many other Android OEMs, this information is somehow vague for it has no specific date or even month as to when OnePlus 3 users can expect to start downloading the new OS.
For all we know, major software updates on Android devices can take months, especially where third-party OEMs are involved. With OnePlus not exempted, it is possible that the wait could take weeks or even months. In short, Android 7.0 Nougat should start reaching the 2016 OnePlus flagship somewhere in November or even December, depending on how fast the team is.
During the same AMA, the group using the mid-range OnePlus X should start receiving the much-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow as from this coming week. However, unlike the OnePlus 3, do not expect Android 7.0 Nougat to make it to this midranger.
OnePlus has only four smartphones in the market. The inaugural OnePlus One, the 2015 OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X as well as the latest flagship, OnePlus 3. Of these four, it is possible that OnePlus 2 could receive Android Nougat at some point in time, probably next year.
