OnePlus 3T Spotted on Weibo; Set to Offer Snapdragon 821 and Android Nougat

OnePlus 3 was launched only a couple of months back, but it could already be demoted as the best OnePlus phone money can buy.

There have been quite a lot of rumors that the company is preparing a new device with IPS panels in order to overcome the shortage of AMOLED displays. The company has been sourcing the AMOLED panels from Samsung and there seems to be a major shortage in this regard. It has led to huge waiting periods for the OnePlus 3, although it could be down to the popularity of the phone as well.

Offering high-end specifications at less than $400, the OnePlus 3 has been a huge hit just like its predecessor. However, a new device – reported to be a variation of the OnePlus 3 – was seen on China Compulsory Certification (3C). There are reports that the device could be called as the OnePlus 3S, but initial rumors claimed that the current model would be removed in favor of this new version. The new version was expected to bring IPS panels in place of the AMOLED displays, although OnePlus CEO Carl Pei confirmed that the company is not planning to switch to IPS panels anytime soon.

It is looking highly likely that the new device, which has passed through certification in China, will be sold alongside the existing OnePlus 3. The most concrete evidence has come in the form of an OnePlus 3T moniker on Chinese social media site Weibo. Interestingly, this model was put on the social media by one of the designers the OnePlus team. No details about the specifications are out just yet, but it is rumored that the phone will come with the latest snapdragon 821 processor. It will also offer Android Nougat out of the box.

OnePlus 3T Specs

The existing OnePlus 3 comes with a snapdragon 820 processor and 6 GB of RAM, which makes it one of the fastest phones out there. The substantial amount of RAM also helps the phone do multitasking with never before seen ease. The new processor is unlikely to give a major difference in terms of performance, but it could slightly help battery life due to its better efficiency. Battery life is not a concern on the OnePlus 3 due to the dash charging feature, which brings up 60% of the charge in just 30 minutes. It is one of the fastest ways of quick charging the battery.
