There’s a rumor that OnePlus 5 will be unveiled on June 15. This did not come directly from the Chinese company, but a leaked image that is allegedly from the company shows this date with the OnePlus trademark.
Whether this date will materialize or not we can’t tell at the moment. However, the company’s latest move could be an indicator that the launch of OnePlus 5 is indeed around the corner. Using its official Weibo account, OnePlus has teased a series of retail boxes for the phone, an indicator that the release is set to happen really soon.
The box comes in two colors – red and white – and each has a number “5” printed on it, a confirmation that they are meant for the upcoming OnePlus 5 flagship. So far, we don’t know if these boxes have anything to do with the appearance of what will be inside. However, we’ve previously seen the company tease a red color for the phone, which could be a welcome idea for many out there.
Last year’s OnePlus 3T had two color variants at launch. Whether this year’s OnePlus 5 will follow the same path and ship with two color variants at launch and maybe play around with more colors until a newer model, probably OnePlus 5T, comes around is still unknown.
In terms of specs and features, the teased retail boxes are perfect at giving none. However, we’ve seen the company confirm that OnePlus 5 will join the Galaxy S8, Xperia XZ Premium, Xiaomi Mi 6 and HTC U11 in shipping with the new Snapdragon 835 SoC. Although not mentioned, we expect to see at least 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage, but don’t be surprised if there’s more from OnePlus.
There’s talk of a dual-lens camera on the back and the same 5.5-inch display screen. Even though a bigger battery is expected, there’s still no mention of the capacity. Software-wise, Android 7.1 Nougat will run the show out of the box.
