Overwatch has bagged some of the best awards including the Game of the Year 2016 honors.
The game made by Blizzard entertainment stood out of the crowd with its amazing technical value, gameplay and presentation.
The awards ceremony commemorated the best game titles in almost every category you could think of. The contention was really strong this year with plenty of great ones including Overwatch, Doom, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 among many others. Each game competed in their respective categories but an all-rounder award as the GOTY was bagged by Overwatch. Blizzard entertainment, developers of the title won the award for best game direction. Overwatch was also honored as the best multiplayer game despite stiff competition from Battlefield 1, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 2.
The awards won by the Blizzard game didn’t stop there because it also competed against industry biggies like Dota 2, League of Legends and Counter Strike Global Offensive to win the best eSports game award. It is such a relatively new game to the esports community but has gained immense fan following in such a short period. The rapid growth allowed them to win over titles like CS Go and Dota that are competitively played for more than a decade now.
Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End bagged the second set of awards in categories including best narrative and best performance. The latter was presented to Nolan North who voiced the lead character Nathan Drake in the game and his amazing acting which was skillfully captured by the development team. The honors for the best music and sound design was bagged by Doom, developed by id and Bethesda. The game got another award for the best action title this year.
Dishonored 2 for its combination of action and adventure won the award in the best action/adventure category. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was honored as the best RPG, Street Fighter V as the best fighting game and Civilization VI for being the best RPG released in 2016. Pokemon Go made by Niantic became the best family game that people could enjoy on their smartphones and for its appealing factor to people of all age groups.
Nintendo had very little presence in this area. However, the developers of Switch console managed to keep the crowd in their toes with the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. The title was the most anticipated game.
