Samsung is reportedly testing two variants of the Galaxy S8 flagship. Apparently, there is a Samsung Galaxy S8 and a Galaxy S8 Plus, meaning there Edge brand name is no more.
Well, you’ll be surprised with the latest happenings from China’s Weibo. While we’ve reported about Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus being tested, it appears that this is not the case, at least for the latter. Contrary to what we’ve uncovered before, it appears that Samsung Galaxy S8 will still come with an S8 Edge variant and not a Plus variant as thought earlier unless Samsung has plans to add a third variant to the family.
As per the previous reports, we have a Samsung Galaxy S8 phones with model numbers SM-G950 and SM-G955 being tested. While these two have notoriously been identified as the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, a new leak has surfaced from the same Weibo with claims that the second variant with model number SM-G955 will be termed as Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge. So, where does this leave the rumored Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus?
There have been talks of a Samsung Galaxy S8 that features an optional S-Pen. We’ve also had talk of a 6-inch S8 variant, but the latest report tends to concur with what Sam Mobile had reported earlier, claiming that there could be a flat variant of the Galaxy S8 in the works. At this point in time, it is easy to believe any rumor, but with reports also adding that Samsung will go into production in March, we still have some time before we get to know what exactly Samsung has in store for us. Nonetheless, don’t be surprised if a third variant of the S8 comes in at some point this year.
Strange enough, while many expect Samsung Galaxy S8 to come preinstalled with Android Nougat, the variants being tested supposedly come with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, but this does not mean it will be the final version.
