The year 2016 hasn’t been the best for Taiwanese tech giant HTC even though the company still launched quite a number of great devices in the shape of HTC 10 and the recent HTC Bolt or rather HTC 10 Evo.
In fact, HTC has been struggling over the past few years and it is probably one of the reasons the company was quick to accept Google’s proposal of playing as the “undercover” OEM behind the highly successful Pixel and Pixel XL phones. Apparently, the company is looking for ways to get back into the fold and latest reports suggest that three devices are being lined up for a release in Q1 2017.
Even though HTC has not confirmed any of these reports, the latest word on the street is that a press conference scheduled for January 12 could see the first device launched – the HTC One X10. This will be a midrange handset that will succeed last year’s HTC One X9 and if reports are to be believed, the phone will feature a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Under the hood, the One X10 will pack a MediaTek Helio P10 SoC that is paired with a decent RAM of 3GB while the main camera will ship with a 13MP lens. With HTC Bolt (HTC 10 Evo) already shipping with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, the HTC One X10 is also mooted to make its debut with the same OS out of the box.
The second smartphone to be released will be the HTC Ocean, the successor to the current flagship, HTC 10. Whether this device will be baptized HTC 11 or not is still a mystery, however, it should be announced at the MWC 2017 event that will be held towards the end of February in Barcelona, Spain. While the specs of this handset are still unknown, given that it will be a flagship offering, features such as a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB RAM, and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box are expected.
It gets even more interesting when it comes to the third smartphone that HTC is rumored to be working on – an HTC Ocean Note. Apparently, this handset should feature a larger display size as compared to the standard HTC Ocean. The changes in display size should also be reflected in the features under the hood, but as for now, all these are just based on rumors and speculations.
