A new Sony Xperia smartphone has been spotted in the wild and even though there is no confirmation of what this model this is, fresh rumors suggest that this could be the Xperia XZ 2017.
Sony unveiled the current Xperia XZ in October 2016 and if the “norm” was to be kept, an Xperia XZ 2017 model should come in the second half of 2017. Nonetheless, the latest leak, which comes via @Slashleaks, says that the leaked images are for the alleged Xperia XZ 2017 phone.
In addition to giving us a sneak view into what Sony is probably preparing with its new phone as far as the design is concerned, the new leak also shows off a key spec of the phone – the RAM capacity. Apparently, the alleged Sony Xperia XZ 2017 will come with a RAM of 4GB, which is 1GB more than last year’s variant.
The rumor comes from China’s social networking platform Weibo and given the platform’s mixed performances when it comes to the game of leaks, it is best not to be so sure that this is indeed the successor to the Xperia XZ. On the other hand, with Sony already confirmed to be attending the MWC 2017 tech show, the latest images and spec could as well be meant for one of the midrange phones the company is set to launch at this Barcelona-held annual mobile tech show.

Last year, Sony debuted the Xperia X at the MWC show in the same Spanish city. If the Japanese tech giant sticks to its calendar, the rumored midrange Sony Xperia phones should come as refreshed variants of the Xperia XA, Xperia X and Xperia X Performance – something that throws further doubt to the latest Xperia XZ 2017 rumor.
In about two weeks, the MWC 2017 tech show will kick off. It is when we’ll really know what Sony is up to, but for now, take this report with a pinch of salt.
