If Xiaomi sticks to the same launch date, last year’s Redmi Pro should get a replacement in July this year, which is still months away.
Despite this, rumors are already out there regarding the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 handset that will take the place of the original Redmi Pro. While the new rumor doesn’t give out many details about this phone, it has one major detail – the processor model.
Apparently, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 will ship with a much powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor, similar to what you find in the phablet Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro. Other than this detail, there is nothing more the latest rumor gives out, still, previous speculations have pointed towards a number of other interesting specs for the Redmi Pro 2.
For starters, the screen size and specs shouldn’t be different from what was offered on the Redmi Pro. These include 5.5 inches and 1080p resolution. Under the hood, the said Snapdragon 653 processor should be paired with a massive RAM of 6GB, again, similar to the Galaxy C9 Pro. However, don’t be surprised if the phone also ships with another 4GB RAM variant, making it two variants, just like its predecessor. In terms of storage, there is talk of two variants too, but this time the base model will be coming in with 64GB and the high-end model shipping with 128GB. Still, there will be room to expand storage via SIM 2 slot.
Redmi Pro2 may be powered by SD653.

The Xiaomi Redmi Pro had an interesting combination of camera specs. The back came with a dual-lens setup of 13MP+5MP alongside features like PDAF, dual-tone LED flash, HDR, AF and f/2.0 aperture. The front part had a 5MP snapper with the same aperture as the main camera. If anything, the rumored Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 should better these camera specs or at least retain a huge chunk.
The battery capacity should also see an upgrade from 4050mAh to about 4500mAh, including support for Quick Charge technology. Like last year, the new Redmi Pro 2 should come with a USB-C port as well as keep the 3.5mm audio jack. The fingerprint scanner will also keep its position on the front panel, under the home button.
Keep in mind that Xiaomi has not made any details about the Redmi Pro 2 public and the above specs are only based on rumors and speculations. As such, be keen to take them with a pinch of salt.
