Keen to protect its market share in this segment, Samsung is preparing for yet another midrange device which will be christened as the new Galaxy C series.
The South Korean manufacturer is about to launch two mid-range devices – Galaxy C5 and Galaxy C7 – towards the end of May. However, several leaks have been found to be close to the specifications of the two devices. The leaked pictures suggested that they are likely to be similar in design to that of the numerous Galaxy models in this price range.
The specifications of the Samsung Galaxy C5 are particularly looking good for the device. It is expected to come with a 5.2 inch full HD display, which may omit the Super AMOLED technology in favor of the slightly inexpensive IPS panels. Perhaps, the biggest advantage on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy C5 may be 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage on the higher end variants. Lower models could come with 32 GB of storage, but there has been no mention of a 16 GB variant. Manufacturers are slowly going away with the 16 GB models and the Samsung Galaxy C5 is further proof.
Even though the Samsung Galaxy C5 will have an octa core processor clocked at either 1.5 GHz or 1.2 GHz depending on the model, performance is expected to be mediocre with the heavy Samsung user interface on top of the stock Android. This may be one area where the phones like the Moto G4 Plus, which offer pure Android experience, will be able to sound enticing. The lack of a user interface also means that the Moto devices will receive updates to the upcoming Android N, without any delay. As for the Samsung Galaxy C5, it is a huge doubt if the phone will be upgraded to the next version of Android. However, it ships with the latest 6.0.1 version out of the box.
The rear camera has a very strong 16-megapixel sensor and it will be supported by an equally strong eight-megapixel sensor in the front. There is little the competition can do in the camera aspect against the Samsung Galaxy C5. The Galaxy C5, though, maybe let down by the small 2600 mAh battery. Samsung will officially launch the device in the last week of May.
